Project Requirements
Senior Exit Project Research Paper
In addition to completing your Senior Exit Presentation, you will be writing a research paper (2,000 words minimum) based on an issue related to the career of your choice or job shadow experience.
Requirements:
Research an issue related to the career of your choice or your job shadow experience.
Write a research paper in which you explain the problem or controversial issue related to your topic.
Your Research Paper will be written in 3rd person.
A minimum of seven (7) sources are required.
OPTIONAL: Conduct at least one interview in which you use the interview worksheet, transcribe your interview, and remember to write a thank-you note to your interviewee.
Information from the interview (perhaps your only primary resource) can be used as a resource in your paper.
You must consult a variety of media to thoroughly research your subject. Depending on your topic, you may have more print sources or more internet sources, but you must have a variety.
A mandatory formal Works Cited list identifying the sources you included in your paper in MLA format. While MLA is not the only format used in colleges to document research, it is widely known.
Your paper should include (but is not limit to) the following information:
Introduction (this can be multiple paragraphs)
In one statement establish the problem or controversial issue that your paper will examine
Define key terminology
Summarize the issues
Use quotations and paraphrases from authorities to clarify the controversial nature of the subject
Make concessions on some points of the argument
Provide background information to relate the past to the present
Write a thesis to establish your position
Body of the essay
Develop arguments to defend each side of the subject
Analyze the issues, both pro and con
Give evidence from the sources including quotations as appropriate
Conclusion
Expand your thesis into a conclusion that makes clear your position, which should be one that grows logically from your analysis and discussion of the issues
A Works Cited Page will be included with at least 7 sources.
